Legendary former England striker Sir Jeff Hurst compared the current coach of the "three lions" Gareth Southgate with the mentor of the winners of the 1966 World Cup by Sir Alf Ramsey.

According to Hirst, Southgate has all the qualities to win the World Cup 2018.

"When leading a top-level team, leadership qualities are very important," Hirst quotes Sky Sports. - In 1966, we had an incredible Alf Ramsey, who had clear ideas about how the team should be built and how it should play. And the players he picked so that they could translate his ideas and command character. And his decisions were not questioned. Watching Southgate, I notice a great similarity in his methods with Sir Alf. I hope that he will be able to achieve the same success ".

52 years ago, England in the first and last (for the time being) in its history became the world champion. In the final match of the 1966 World Cup against Germany Jeff Hurst issued a hat-trick.

In the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup, England will play against Croatia on July 11 in Luzhniki Stadium. The match starts at 21:00 Kyiv time.
