35-year-old Kohfeldt temporarily headed Werder after the dismissal of Alexander Nuri in late October. Since then, Bremen have scored 31 points in 18 games and climbed to 12th place in the Bundesliga standings, so the club management entrusted him with a permanent position.

Kochfeldt began coaching in Werder as an assistant to Viktor Skrypnyk, after which he also headed the team U23.
