Croatian authorities have brought charges against the captain of the national team and midfielder Real Lucas Modric for perjury in court.
Midfielder Real Madrid Luka Modric accused of giving false testimony during the trial of tax fraud former president of Zagreb Dynamo Zdravko Mamicha.
Zdravko Mamich, his brother Zoran and two other people are accused of misappropriating more than 15 million euros from the treasury of Dynamo. It is also reported that Mamich concluded overcharged contracts with players who then rolled back some of his money.
The prosecutor's office claims that the 32-year-old Modric made false statements in June 2017, when he talked about the details of his transition from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham in 2008. According to the supplement to the contract, Luka was to receive about 50% of the cost of his transfer. According to the player, he gave this money to Mamich's people.
The prosecutor's office is suspicious of the fact when it was Modric signed this supplement. In court, Luka claimed that in July 2004, but the investigation suspects that this was done after the conclusion of the treaty with Tottenham.
If he is found guilty of perjury, Modrica faces up to five years in prison.
