Barrios was born in Argentina and his first professional contract in 2002 he signed with Argentinos Juniors, to the youth team who joined in 15 years.

He left Argentinos Juniors in 2004, and in 2009 moved to Europe as part of Dortmund's Borussia. For the "bumblebee" Barrios scored 49 goals in 102 games, after which he went to Guangzhou Evergren.
