In early June, Liverpool entered into negotiations with Van Dyke without the consent of Southampton. The saints did not forgive the Merseyside club and appealed with a corresponding complaint to the leadership of the Premier League.

In response, the Reds issued an official statement in which they apologized to Southampton and expressed regret over the situation. In addition, Liverpool said that the club is no longer interested in the 26-year-old player.

Now the British media insist that Liverpool again entered the race for Van Dyke. It is noted that the Reds intensified their interest after the Dutchman announced his desire to leave the current team and started preparing for the season on his own.

Interestingly, now Liverpool turned to Southampton and is waiting for permission from the club to enter into negotiations with Van Dyke.

In the season that ended, Virgil spent 21 matches in his Premier League and scored one goal.
