Former striker of the Donetsk Miner Cristiano Lucarelli signed a two-year coaching contract with Catania.
Lucarelli played for Shakhtar in the first half of the 2007/08 season, when he scored eight goals in 21 games, after which he moved to Parma.
In 2012, he announced the completion of the gaming career, after which he headed the youth team of Parma.
In June 2013, Lucarelli accepted Perugia, but was dismissed before the end of the season due to disagreements with the club's management.
After that, he coached Viareggio, and before accepting the offer of Catania, the 41-year-old Italian headed Pistoieze.
In the past season Catania took 11th place in the Pro League.
