Nantes officially announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as head coach.

Italian coach Claudio Ranieri signed a two-year contract with Nantes.

Ranieri agreed the terms of the personal contract early in the week, but the announcement of his appointment was delayed because of the rule of the French Football Federation, according to which the age of the coach in League 1 should not exceed 65 years.

Nevertheless, the leadership of League 1 made an exception for Ranieri at the request of Nantes.

65-year-old Ranieri remained in the status of a free agent since February, when he was fired from Leicester, with whom he won the Premier League 2015/16.

At the end of the season Nantes took seventh place in the standings of League 1, but their already former head coach Sergio Conceicao left for Porto.
