In the Netherlands ended the playoff for the right to perform in the European League.

Utrecht took fourth place in the championship of the Netherlands, giving the right to participate in the European League, but was in the playoff zone for participating in the LEF because of the victory of Vitesse in the Cup of the country.

In the semi-finals, Utrecht twice defeated Heerenven (2: 1, 3: 1), and in the other semifinal pair, Azzin defeated Groningen twice (4: 1, 4: 1).

In the first final match, AZ did not slow down and again won a devastating victory (3: 0). Before the return fight AZ was considered an unconditional favorite for the overall victory in the playoffs. But another opinion was in Utrecht.

Already in the 12th minute the account was opened, and the hosts continued to attack. In the middle of the first half the score becomes 2: 0, and the voltage increased. After the second goal, the spectators did not see the ball in the goal net almost an hour of playing time, but on the 82nd minute Utrecht scored the third goal and equalized the score by the sum of two matches.

At the 6th minute added referee Utrecht earned a penalty, but the goalkeeper Tim Krul is known to parry the blow of Sebastien Haller and transferred the match into overtime.

In additional halves, the teams did not score goals, and therefore the last ticket to the Europa League was decided by a penalty shootout.

AZ began with an inaccurate strike, after which Haller took revenge against Krul. Further, the AZ did not manage to cope with the nerves of Joris van Overem, while in Utrecht Andreas Ludwig. With a score of 3: 3, the last and decisive blow went to punch the pupil of the London Arsenal, Nasser Barazit, who did not blunder and brought victory to Utrecht.
