Defender Manchester United Marcos Rojo will not return to the field this season due to a knee injury he received in the Europa League match against Anderlecht.

The Argentinean injured his knee in the first half after a clash with Anderlecht player Frank Achimping and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

In the Manchester club, they hoped that Rojo managed to avoid serious damage, but a medical examination diagnosed the defender's rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, reports Daily Record.

The 27-year-old Rojo will undergo surgery and, according to sources close to the player, his return to the game is expected not earlier than September.

But the striker United Zlatan Ibrgimovich, who also injured his knee, will need 9 to 12 months to recover.
