Former world champion Mairis Briedis spoke about a possible fight between heavyweight champion Alexander Usik and IBF cruiserweight title holder Jay Opetai.
The Latvian believes that the Ukrainian should end his career, otherwise if he changes weight category, his health will not withstand the load.
“If I were Usik, I would finish my career undefeated and would not move to cruiserweight. Alexander was gaining weight all the time.
If he returns to cruiserweight, he will have to lose weight, and this is a lot of stress for the body.
If Usik moves back to cruiserweight and fights Opetai there, then Jay will smash him. Not just win, but completely destroy. It took Alexander a long time to gain this weight, this muscle mass, so if he loses weight now, he won’t have the strength. Therefore, I am sure that Opetaya will win against Usik,” Mairis is quoted as saying by Dailysports.
Previously, Usik admitted that he wanted to end his career, but was dissuaded.
