The Ukrainian Diving Federation expelled Sofia Lyskun from the national team of Ukraine and deprived her of all titles received under the auspices of the federation. The decision was a consequence of the fact that the 23-year-old native of Lugansk hid her intention to change citizenship from coaches, the Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The statement notes that such an act discredits not only Lyskun herself, but also the entire Ukrainian team, which fights every day for the right to represent the country at international competitions.
The Federation reminded that in the Ukrainian diving family there are coaches and parents of athletes who defend Ukraine at the front, so everyone who goes out under the blue and yellow flag must understand “the high price of this honor.”.
At an extraordinary meeting, the Executive Committee not only excluded Lyskun from the team, but also initiated the process of appealing to international sports authorities to introduce a sports quarantine.
The organization also stated that they are ready to take additional measures within the framework of the law to ensure that such cases do not recur..
Lyskun later announced her intention to compete for the Russian swimming team, openly confirming that she sees her future in the Russian team.
The Ukrainian diving team admitted that they were shocked by the athlete’s act. According to the Blue-Yellow coach Ilya Tselyutin, the reasons for such a step by his ward are unknown to anyone.
