The leader of the Norwegian biathlon team, Johannes Thingnes Boe, a five-time Olympic champion and 20-time world champion, has decided to retire after this season. The athlete explained his step with a desire to spend more time with his family, emphasizing that preparing for the Olympic Games requires too much time and effort, both from him and from his loved ones.

In his Instagram post, Boe admitted that for the past six years he has successfully combined a career in sports with family life, but now feels that it is time to focus on his loved ones.

He noted that it was incredibly important for him to feel the support of his people, especially in such difficult moments. In his post, the athlete also said that, despite his love for competitions, the days at the start have become shorter, and the remaining days are increasingly difficult.

Talking about his decision at a press conference, the 31-year-old biathlete could not contain his emotions and burst into tears..

One of the turning points in Boe's career was his worst performance of his career. On 15 January at the 2024/2025 World Cup in Ruhpolding he took 85th place in the individual race.

Throughout his career, Boe won five World Cups in a row, and also set a record for the most World Cup wins - 88. In 2023, he became the first man in biathlon history to win seven medals at one world championship: 5 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.. In 2024, he repeated this success at the World Championships in Nove Mesto, winning 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals.

Johannes Boe will end his career at his home stadium in Holmenkollen, where he will hold his last races from 20 to 23 March 2025.
