Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) must announce his return to the professional ring if he wants a box office fight with Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). The Gypsy King, as the Briton is known, announced his retirement earlier this week after two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs).
In an interview with Mail Sport, promoter Eddie Hearn, who manages the affairs of Joshua, who also lost twice to Usyk, noted that a fight between the two Englishmen could be expected in the summer. At the same time, the head of Matchroom Boxing noted that organizing such a large-scale fight at the legendary Wembley Stadium requires a lot of time and effort.
“None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we want to see a fight in the summer, he will probably have to come back in the next three to four weeks. After this date, it will be difficult to organize a fight of this scale in the summer. I think he will come back, but everything is in his hands.
As for Joshua, we have options and we are looking at them now,"
It is important to note that Tyson has already announced his retirement twice. In 2017, he announced his retirement from boxing after defeating Vladimir Klitschko, and in 2022, defeating Dillian Whyte (30-3, 20 KOs). After those statements, a few months later Fury returned to the ring.
Last year, the Briton suffered two defeats from Oleksandr Usyk. Additionally, Fury's cryptic words about retiring have been revealed.
