The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially expelled from its membership the International Boxing Federation (IBA), which is headed by the scandalous Russian functionary Umar Kremlev. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the IOC Executive Committee. The IOC Executive Board has concluded that the IBA has not fulfilled the conditions set before it. 69 members of the International Olympic Committee voted for the exclusion of the pro-Russian organization, only one voted against. The organization also recommended leaving boxing in the program of the next Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in 2024 in Paris.. We add that Kremlev is an ally of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and has been president of the IBA since December 2020, he previously headed the Russian Boxing Federation. In October last year, the International Boxing Federation returned athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to competitions, allowing them to compete under the flags of aggressor states.
Russian and Belarusian officials were also allowed to compete, including judges. Earlier, the IBA banned the Ukrainian team from competing at the European Youth Championship 2022 under the national flag, forcing our boxers to compete exclusively under the IBA flag. Because of this, the Ukrainians staged a protest and generally refused to enter the ring. After a high-profile scandal, the Ukrainian junior boxing team decided to immediately leave the continental championship.
