The International Football Federation (FIFA) has extended the special position of legionnaires in the championships of Ukraine and Russia against the backdrop of Russian military aggression.

This was announced by the official website of FIFA..

Foreign players and coaches will still have the option to unilaterally suspend their contracts until 30 June 2024, provided that clubs receive notification of this by 1 July 2023.

At the same time, an important change has been made: all football players and coaches who decide to come to Ukraine or the Russian Federation, return to the club or not leave one of the two countries, will not be able to suspend contracts in the future. This applies to anyone who plays or coaches at clubs after March 7, 2022..

In addition, foreign players who have suspended their contracts will not be able to be transferred or loaned for a fee or sign a contract with a club not registered in Ukraine or Russia..

Recall that in Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk suffered more than other teams, which, due to FIFA rules, lost many legionnaires.. The Pitmen tried to sue FIFA, but in January the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland decided to reject the club's claim.

Earlier it was reported that Shakhtar, against the backdrop of the FIFA rules, will prescribe a special clause in the contracts of newcomers.
