Russian athletes competing in weightlifting will miss qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

This was reported by the portal Inside the Games with reference to the statement of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The IWF approved the participation of 13 athletes from Belarus, but the necessary documents on potential participants have not been received from Russia. Submission deadline expired May 15.

Thus, the Russians were not included in the list of neutral athletes who will perform at the Grand Prix in Havana (Cuba) from June 8 to 18. Weightlifters who did not show up for this tournament will not be able to compete at the 2024 Olympics.

It is worth noting that last week the Russian Weightlifting Federation criticized the requirements for athletes put forward by the IWF.

The Russian Federation called them "

Recall that on March 28, the IOC returned Russians and Belarusians to international sports with a number of restrictions.. Individual athletes were allowed to compete, while the ban remains in place in team sports.. Athletes should not be seen in public support of the war in Ukraine and not be listed in army organizations.

Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian national team repeated the national record at the European Weightlifting Championships.
