Latvia is ready to boycott the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate.

This was stated by the head of the National Olympic Committee of Latvia Georges Tikmers.

"

We all hope together that the war will end, Ukraine will win, and then there will be a completely new situation and new rules of the game. Then, of course, Latvian athletes will also be able to participate in the Olympics,"

The President of the Latvian Olympic Committee will also advise all national sports federations at the international level to appeal to prevent Russians and Belarusians from qualifying for the 2024 Olympics.

Earlier it was reported that Russian and Belarusian athletes were officially invited to take part in the Asian Games so that they could qualify for the 2024 Olympics..

It should be noted that Latvia became the first country after Ukraine to publicly express its readiness to boycott the Olympic Games in Paris in case of participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus..

Recall, on January 26, the IOC discussed the issue of removing Russians and Belarusians from international competitions and announced its readiness to consider the possibility of returning athletes from aggressor countries, but in a neutral status and only those who did not support the war in Ukraine.

This caused harsh criticism from Ukrainian officials.. Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit said that our country could boycott the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if athletes from Russia and Belarus were allowed to compete.

The NOC of Ukraine will consider the issue of a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games on February 3.
