Authoritative magazine The Ring announced the contenders for the award " The Ukrainian WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was included in the list of nominees.

Usyk can receive a prestigious award for his victory over Briton Anthony Joshua in a rematch, which took place in the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on the night of August 21, 2022.

Then Usyk won by split decision and thus defended the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF titles, which he took away from AJ last fall, and also won the vacant belt of The Ring magazine.

In addition to the Ukrainian, Shakur Stevenson (for a unanimous decision victory over Oscar Valdez), Jesse Rodriguez (for an early victory over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai) and Dmitry Bivol (for a unanimous decision victory over Saul Alvarez) claim the award from The Ring.. Note that last year Shakur Stevenson won in this nomination for his performance in a fight with Jamel Herring, and in 2020 Teofimo Lopez became the winner for his victory over Vasily Lomachenko.
