Sergey Lapin, a member of the coaching staff of the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight title holder Alexander Usik, shared his ward's plans for the near future.

According to him, Usyk is preparing for a fight for the title of absolute world champion with WBC title holder Tyson Fury.. If this fight fails to be organized, then the fallback option for the Ukrainian remains the defense of the WBA title against the mandatory contender - Briton Daniel Dubois.

“I think the WBA requirement for Usyk to fight Daniel Dubois will not be an obstacle to organizing the fight for the absolute championship between Alexander and Tyson Fury, which we all want to see.

We hope nothing gets in the way of this fight, but being able to take on Dubois will be a back-up plan in case the fight against Fury does fall through.. Although this is not what boxing fans would like to see in 2023,"

Recall that earlier the IBF also ordered Usyk to fight against the mandatory challenger - Croat Philipp Hrgovic..

The 35-year-old Usyk has 20 wins (13 by knockout) in 20 fights.

He held four of them in the heavyweight division.. Before that, Alexander became the absolute world champion in the cruiserweight (weight category up to 90.7 kg), having won all four of the most prestigious belts there..

On the night of August 21, 2022, Alexander defeated Briton Anthony Joshua in a rematch, which took place in the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). Thus, the Ukrainian defended all the titles taken from AJ last fall, and also won the vacant belt of The Ring magazine..
