On Saturday, August 20, WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) defeated British Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) in a rematch and defended his titles.
After the fight, Joshua was very disappointed and threw the championship belt into the ring. Then he picked up the microphone and commented on his defeat.
" I'm not an amateur boxer since the age of five, who has been an elite prospect since my youth. They put me in jail, they released me on bail and then I started to train. I wanted to be able to fight.
I wish I had to take the belts away from Usyk. But it's because of the passion I put into it. This young man beat me now. Maybe I could do better but it shows the level of hard work I put in so please give our world heavyweight champion a round of applause..
I'm not a 12 round fighter. Look at me I'm a new breed of heavyweight Mike Tyson Sonny Liston Jack Dempsey " I'm a super heavyweight, it's hard work. So please give him a round of applause as our World Heavyweight Champion.. This guy is a phenomenal talent, we will be rooting for him..
Three cheers for him,"
Now the 35-year-old Usyk has 20 wins (13 by knockout) in 20 fights. He held four of them in the heavyweight division.. Before that, Alexander became the absolute world champion in the cruiserweight (weight category up to 90.7 kg), having won all four of the most prestigious belts there..
Joshua, 32, has 24 wins (22 by KO) and three losses on his track record.. For the first time, AJ lost in June 2019 to Andy Ruiz, but in December of the same year he defeated the Mexican in a rematch and regained his titles.
