At the planetary championship in Egypt, Olga Harlan stopped in the 1/16 finals, having been defeated by the 2017 world champion Martina Krishchio.

The Ukrainian won all her fights in qualifying. However, she failed to achieve the same success in the main draw of the individual championship..

In the first round, Harlan confidently defeated American Tatyana Nazlimov with a score of 15:6. But further on Olga’s path was precisely the Italian Krishchio, who at the start knocked out another Ukrainian Elena Kravatskaya. A tense duel ended in Harlan's defeat - 14:15.

Thus, for the second year in a row, Harlan flew out of the main tournament at the start of the competition.. This is only the third World Cup in Harlan's career where she did not reach the 1/8 finals.. Previously, this only happened at her debut world championship in 2005 and in 2018..

Harlan is a six-time world champion and an eight-time European champion. In total, she has 34 medals at world and continental championships..

Olga also won four medals at the Olympic Games.. She climbed the podium in Beijing 2008 (gold), London 2012 (bronze) and Rio de Janeiro 2016 (bronze and silver).

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine won the first medal of the World Fencing Championship 2022. Fencer Igor Reyzlin became the bronze medalist.
