Defeated the reigning world champion: karateka Terlyuga won the “gold” of the 2022 World Games for Ukraine

At her debut World Games, a 30-year-old Ukrainian woman triumphed in the weight category up to 55 kg.

At the group stage, Terlyuga finished in a draw with 2017 World Games champion Valeria Kumizaki from Brazil (3:3) and defeated Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Ivet Goranova from Bulgaria (3:0).

In the semi-finals, Angelica defeated the American Trinity Allen - 8:1. And in the final, the Ukrainian karateka minimally defeated the reigning world champion, the Egyptian Ahlam Youssef - 1:0.

For Ukraine, this is the second " The first medal of the highest standard for our country in 2017 was won by Stanislav Goruna.

After the victory, Terlyuga commented on her success. The karateka said that she was proud to be Ukrainian and confident in the close victory of our country in the war against the Russian invaders.

" I am proud to be Ukrainian. And I'm proud that I brought something good for Ukraine.

It was my dream to win this medal and do it in the most difficult conditions.. I am sure that soon we will win, and my country will win in everything,"

The World Games started on July 7 in Birmingham (USA). They will last until July 17. Ukraine is represented by 103 athletes in 19 disciplines.

The World Games are international complex competitions in sports that are not included in the Olympic program, although they are held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.
