Sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes are only getting stronger every day. In April, Wimbledon became the first international tennis tournament to ban Russians and Belarusians from participating in individual competitions.. And on Friday, May 6, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) deprived the federations of Russia and Belarus of membership in the organization.

This was reported by the Tennis Federation of Ukraine on Facebook..

The corresponding decision was made at the ITF conference. As a result of the secret ballot, 80% of the conference delegates supported the exclusion of the federations of the aggressor countries from the ITF, 20% of the delegates were against it.

In addition, FTU Executive Director Evgeny Zukin outlined the position of the Ukrainian federation, which is not only to remove the federations of the aggressor countries, but also to ban individual tennis players from the Russian Federation and Belarus from participating in competitions.. This issue will be discussed in the future..

Recall that at the WTA and ATP tournaments, Russian and Belarusian athletes perform in a neutral status. Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian tennis players, including the first racket of our country Elina Svitolina, demand the complete removal of players from the Russian Federation and Belarus who did not publicly speak out against the war in Ukraine.
