Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchy remembered how she reacted to the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

" Because I woke up at half past four, heard explosions. And I'm like, 'What's going on? ' And then I read the news that there had already been explosions in Kyiv, and explosions were heard there, and it was clear that the war had begun.

We drove to the city, the coach has a house to be there. And read all the news. To be honest, it wasn't all in my head at the time.. What happened, in the 21st century, and we will experience it all. There was no question of sports in general for the first two or three days, of some kind of competition, "

According to the athlete, later she managed to master herself, and the difficult situation in the country motivated her to the planetary championship.

" I wanted to get an award for Ukraine in the struggle, to show the whole world that we are a strong people who will fight to the end for their lands and their independence..

It was quite what you need to go and perform. When the first jumps, it was difficult to tune in and not think about Ukraine, what is happening there, what news.

But the coach set me up, she said that if it wasn’t difficult for me, I should do everything that we trained before the war, and also show that we are a strong nation.

I really wanted to try 204 cm. I have 202 cm - this is a personal record indoors, the best result in the season. It was also very cool, because I was able to tune in to this result in such difficult circumstances..

Of course, it’s a pity that 204 cm didn’t jump, but I didn’t think about the result, the most important thing is to get a medal in the fight and jump higher,” she said..

Recall that Maguchy was recognized as the best athlete in Europe in March.
