Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (No. 6 WTA) failed to reach the semifinals of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.

In the fourth round match, the native of Odessa lost in two sets to 19-year-old polka Iga Sventek (No. 15 WTA), who won Roland Garros last year. The match lasted 1 hour 38 minutes and ended with the defeat of the Ukrainian woman with a score of 2: 6, 5: 7.

Interestingly, Elina reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Rome for the second time in a row.. Last year she stopped fighting at this stage as well.. In 2017 and 2018 Svitolina became the winner of the competition in the capital of Italy.

In the semifinals, which will take place today, Sventek will compete with American Corey Gauff (No. 35 WTA).

As TSN Prosport wrote, in the previous round Svitolina defeated Spaniard Garbinier Mugurusu.
