Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk (No. 77 WTA) confidently overcame the starting circle of qualifications for the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.
Her rival in the first qualifying round was Russian Margarita Gasparyan (No. 98 WTA). Kostyuk won in two sets - 6: 4, 6: 1.
In the final of the qualification Kostyuk will play for a place in the main draw against the winner of the confrontation between the Latvian Anastasia Sevastova (No. 54 WTA) and Tsvetana Pironkova from Bulgaria (No. 116 WTA).
Another Ukrainian Yekaterina Kozlova will also play in the last qualifying round, defeating Estonian Kaya Kanepi (No. 66 WTA) in her opening match - 6: 1, 6: 4.
In the final of the qualification Kozlova will meet with the representative of Kazakhstan Zarina Diyas (No. 89 WTA).
The best tennis player of Ukraine Elina Svitolina will start her journey in Madrid from the first round of the main draw, where she will compete against the Swiss Gilles Teichmann (No. 40 WTA).
Earlier TSN Prosport wrote that Svitolina admitted whether she would change her last name after the wedding with French tennis player Gael Monfils.
