CAS disqualified Russian track and field athletes

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued on Wednesday, April 7, a number of decisions that concern Russian athletes.

In particular, athletes Andrey Silnov (high jumps) and Natalya Antyukh (400 meters hurdles) were disqualified for 4 years for violation of anti-doping rules. The proof was the report of Richard McLaren - the head of the commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

At the same time, CAS, having considered the appeals, reduced the period of disqualification of Russian athletes Ivan Ukhov, Svetlana Shkolina and Yulia Kondakova from four years to two years and 9 months, and Ekaterina Galitskaya - to three years.

In 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) suspended Russia from participating in major international competitions for four years. WADA found it proven manipulations with the database of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory transferred to it. Russia contested the decision to dismiss in the arbitration court in Lausanne.

In December 2020, the CAS ruled that Russian athletes can participate in international competitions, but without using the national flag and anthem for two years, including at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021, the Beijing Winter Games in 2022-.
