Swedish fighter of Chechen origin Khamzat Chimaev defeated American Gerald Mershart by knockout at the UFC Fight Night 178 mixed martial arts tournament.
The fight lasted only 17 seconds. Already in the debut of the fight, Chimaev stunned his opponent with a powerful right kick to the jaw, after which the American fell on the floor of the ring.
The Swede immediately rushed to finish off the opponent, but the judge intervened in time and stopped the fight, thereby saving the US representative from the inevitable severe beating.
For 26-year-old Chimaev, the victory was ninth in mixed martial arts in nine fights, and also third in the UFC. Khamzat sets a promotion record with three starting wins in 66 days.
Merschart, 32, suffered 13th career defeat. Also on account of his 31 wins.
Earlier TSN Prosport reported that the Thai fighter knocked out an opponent in six seconds and went down in history.
