The Ukrainian national team made it to the quarterfinals of the World Chess Olympiad, which is being held online.
In the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainian team beat one of the main favorites of the tournament - the national team of China (7: 6).
The first and second matches of the teams drew (3: 3 and 3: 3), so the winner of the intense duel was determined by a tiebreaker.
The victory of the Ukrainian national team was brought by 17-year-old Kirill Shevchenko, who in the decisive game defeated the Chinese grandmaster Liu Yan in time.
In the quarterfinals, Ukraine will face another favorite of the Chess Olympiad - the US team. The confrontation will take place on August 28.
