April 22, 2006 in German Mannheim, Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko won the IBF and IBO world champion belts, defeating Chris Byrd.

The American had to defend his IBF title for the fifth time. In addition, the boxers were waiting for a vacant belt according to IBO.

The Ukrainian was just an ordinary contender, but left the ring as a double champion.
