The American had to defend his IBF title for the fifth time. In addition, the boxers were waiting for a vacant belt according to IBO.
The Ukrainian was just an ordinary contender, but left the ring as a double champion.

immediately achieved slight dominance, and in the fifth round sent Byrd knocked down. Chris was able to get up, but in the seventh round, the Ukrainian again sent the opponent to the floor and the battle was completed by an early victory for Vladimir.
Klitschko owned these belts for 9 years, during which time he spent 18 title defenses.
Only in November 2015 did he lose to Briton Tyson Fury. Revenge Klitschko did not wait, in April 2017, he lost by knockout Anthony Joshua. And in August 2017, Klitschko ended his career.
