The Royal Prosecution Service indicted two police officers for the death of English footballer Dalian Atkinson, reports Sky News.

The tragedy occurred in August 2016. Atkinson and his elderly father had a conflict, during which the football player began to threaten. The police came to the call and tried to reassure Dalian. After these attempts failed, one of the policemen used an electroshock gun against the player. The athlete could not bear this blow and died in the hospital from cardiac arrest.

Police are now indicted.

One in an unintentional murder, the other in an assault that inflicted physical harm. November 7, both policemen, whose names are kept secret, will appear before the court of Birmingham.

Dalian Atkinson made a name for himself in English clubs. Most of all, the striker was remembered for his appearances for Aston Villa, played in 85 matches and scored 25 goals.

The striker spent the 1996/97 season on loan at Manchester City, scoring 2 goals in 8 bouts.
