A group of researchers from Britain was able to invent a substance that mimics physical activity, thereby reducing body weight and blood glucose levels.. The results of the study can be found in the Washington Post..

Researchers at the University of Southampton say that they managed to synthesize a molecule that makes the cells of the body "think" that they have used up their energy. The created substance was named "Compound 14" (Compound 14).

The authors of the study, Professor of Chemical Biology Ali Tavassoli and Associate Professor of Integrative Physiology Felino Kagampang, believe that "Compound 14" will create a medicine that in the future will help fight obesity and type II diabetes. However, this requires additional research, and also if the safety of a new substance is established when used by humans.

At this time, a new drug was tested only in rodents, but showed positive results.. During the study, "Compound 14" was given to two different groups of mice, the first of which was fed according to a diet, and the second received in the diet foods with high fat content. As a result, no significant changes were observed in the first group of rodents, while the second group developed obesity and impaired glucose tolerance, which are the first “bells” of diabetes.

After both groups of rodents were taking a new drug, created by British scientists, the researchers noticed that the first group of mice had no weight changes, but the second group of rodents had stabilized blood glucose levels after the first day of taking Compound 14. up to normal. Moreover, after a week of taking the drug in rodents, the weight decreased by about 5%.

However, scientists noted that a positive result was observed only in that group of rodents who suffered from overweight.

In the future, scientists intend to continue researching a new drug, but to determine its effect on the body in the long term..
