The most famous Russian chess players, sisters Maria and Anna Muzychuk, used to be shocked by the news that they were going to the World Championships in Russia. Girls exclusively for TSN commented on their decision.

Anna and Maria just returned from the Chess Olympiad in Georgia, where the Ukrainian team won the silver.

Now, they say, they are aggressively preparing for the world championship.. The decision to participate in the Championship in the territory of the aggressor country, they assure, was not easy for them. But they believe that they can not miss the competition, because they will lose titles.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that last year Anna refused to participate in the world championship in blitz and rapid chess in Saudi Arabia because of the obligatory requirement to wear a long Arab dress there. As she herself stated, she did not want to feel like a second-rate man - and at the same time she lost two titles..

"The very fact that you are in Russia, plus this is the World Cup, I think psychologically it may put some pressure. I won in 2015 in Sochi, I hope that I will play well this year, we will prepare for these competitions, "said Maria.

"Of course, we all understand that countries are at war, and this is clearly not very good, but we, the athletes, cannot influence the choice of venue for the competition," added Anna.
