Kenyat Eliud Kipchuge won the marathon, which was held in Berlin.

After running a distance of 42 kilometers for 2: 01,39, he updated the world record, which lasted four years. Kipchoge 76 seconds ahead of the past achievement, which previously belonged to Dennis Kemmeto (Kenya).

The last time such a confident record was updated in 1967, when Derek Clayton beat the best result by 144 seconds.

Note that Eliud Kipchuge is a three-time winner of the Berlin and London marathons, as well as the current winner of the 2016 Olympics.

It is interesting that more than 44 thousand runners from all over the world took part in the marathon. The Berlin Marathon itself was first held in 1974, when 286 participants came to the start.
