The authors of the work say that despite the fact that there are reliable data on the effectiveness of sports in the treatment of nicotine addiction, the mechanisms of this phenomenon are not fully understood.

The scientists decided to conduct an experiment on laboratory rodents, it helped to establish that sport of different intensity affects the a7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors located in the hippocampus.

With dependence, their sensitivity becomes less, so the body needs a large dose of nicotine. Sport helps to restore the work of receptors, and this, in turn, reduces the symptoms of withdrawal syndrome.
