Silver medalist of the Olympic Games Rio-2016 Greco-Roman wrestling Jean Belenyuk commented on the decision of the Ministry of Sports about the ban on going to competitions in Russia.

On his page on Instagram, Zhan Beleniuk remembered those days when Ukrainian athletes 4 consecutive years won medals in Russia. And then no one had any questions.

According to Belenyuk, he was assured that everything will be all right and he will be able to take part in the European Championship, but the Ministry of Sport interfered. Nevertheless, as Jean noted, each athlete must decide for himself whether it is worth going to the competitions held by Russia.

"All this is history, and she does not tolerate the subjunctive mood. Moreover, sport is a crafty and inconstant thing! But I saw a photo of yesterday's pedestal, then the calls of close friends began to arrive, which closely monitor my career - with words of sympathy. And all this inspired me with memories of that time, I'm sorry.

I was assured that everything will be all right: "Do not worry, but train". And I trained at high speed - after all somehow Ukrainian athletes for the last 4 years raised Ukrainian flags at competitions in Russia, brought from there victories. And, which is remarkable, no one had any questions!.

As for the moral aspect - here each athlete determines for himself whether to go or not!

We decided to go, because the athlete is our profession and this is what we can do best! We do not rest, we do not make money (we were immediately told that there will not be any prizes for this championship), but to defeat our rivals, what they taught us for a long time! ", - wrote Belenyuk in Instagram. Recall that the European Championship is held from April 30 to May 6, 2018 in the Russian city of Kaspiysk.

Recently, the reason for the ban on participation of Belenuk in these competitions became known.
