The national team of Ukraine in the structure of Kharkov Maxim Karyuchenko, Andrei Opanasenko, Andrei Derkach and Ruslan Hasanov won bronze medals at the European fencing championship among cadets, juniors and adults, which takes place in Sochi from 2 to 11 March. This was reported in the Office for Youth and Sports of Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

This was the only medal of Ukraine in this age category (cadets).

On the way to the award, Maxim Karyuchenko, Andrei Opanasenko, Andrei Derkach and Ruslan Hasanov defeated Greece 45:35, then rivals from Great Britain 45:42, but in the semifinals with a score of 31:45 lost to the future champions of Europe - the Italians.

In the duel for the third place Ukrainian skapiers confidently defeated the national team of Austria 45:26 and won bronze medals.

In personal competitions Ukrainians could not become prize-winners, and the best result was shown by Andrey Derkach, who took 11th place. In the 1/8 finals the Kharkivan 5:15 lost to the Italian David de Veroli, who eventually won the gold medal.

In competitions among the girls Kharkov shpazhistka Anastasia Zelentsova took eighth place. In the quarterfinals she lost 7:15 to the future champion Esther Muhari from Hungary.

In the team competitions among the team of the Ukrainian team, which included Anastasia Zelentsova, took the fifth place.
