The International Olympic Committee (IOC) needs urgent reform. This opinion was expressed by a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Igor Morozov. So he reacted to the statements of the head of the IOC Thomas Bach about the need to reform the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS), which disagreed with accusations against Russian athletes. The senator suggested that Bach is guided solely by personal career motives, since the recognition that the IOC commission unreasonably ousted Russians from the Olympics would entail his resignation. "Bach is in a very difficult, not sporting, but political situation. Therefore, he is looking for such a compromise option that will help his official longevity. I need to reform. So that it would be impossible to deprive the national delegation for political reasons, even clean athletes, participation in the Olympic Games, "Morozov said in an interview with RT, stressing that the Olympic movement should not serve as an" instrument of the foreign policy of one state, "namely, the USA. I agree with the senator and the well-known coach, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy Valery Gazzaev. "IOC has become a political organization. His decisions are taken without any explanation, without any evidence base and facts, "he said.. - But IOC is not a private bench, its objectivity should be at the maximum level. By such decisions, the IOC has become obsolete and has outlawed itself, "Gazzaev said.. IOC statements that the decision of the CAS to remove from the Russians accusations of doping, to return them to former rewards and admit to competitions, do not really mean anything, has caused a shock to the public. Many of the question arose: "What are they smoking in the IOC?" Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova formulated what everyone says on the language, more diplomatically: "As stated in the IOC statement, the decision of sports arbitration did not remove suspicions of doping. The commission does not have sufficient confidence that these 13 athletes can be considered clean. After such statements, the question arises: is not it time to check the members of the IOC for doping? "- noted Zakharova in Facebook. Earlier, the IOC commission refused 15 Russian athletes rehabilitated by CAS in participating in the 2018 Olympics. Games will be held in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February.
