English football club "Manchester United" was interested in Libyan political and military leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In 2004, he was going to buy shares of the club, reports The Sunday Times.
According to the publication, financier Mehmet Dalman flew on a private plane to Libya to discuss the details of the deal. Gaddafi wanted to buy a 29.9 percent stake in the English club, which then belonged to John Manier and JP MacManus.
According to Dalman, Gaddafi almost bought the club, but why this did not happen does not say.
Gaddafi's son, Saadi, also described the negotiations for the purchase of Manchester United:.
"I told my father that it would be like buying an Anglican church. It is very difficult, and maybe impossible. This is a gold club ".
In 2005, Manchester United acquired American billionaire Malcolm Glaser.
In 2014, the owner of the club died, since then the main stake in MJ belongs to his family.
Recall, "Manchester United" for the second year in a row topped the rating of the most profitable clubs.
