Ukraine received the first gold in "The Games of the Unbowed"

The first gold medal for the national team of Ukraine in the III Games Invincible (Invictus Games) in Toronto was recorded by 29-year-old officer of the Ministry of Defense Oleg Zimnikov from Kiev.

In track and field athletics competitions Zimniki on the night of Tuesday showed the first result in the race for 1500 meters (4 minutes 33 seconds), according to Ukrinform.

The second place went to the representative of France Olivier Butier, who fell behind the Ukrainian for more than a second. The third came New Zealander Dan Crawford.

For Ukraine, which for the first time takes part in the Games of the Unbowed, this is the first gold medal in history.

The account was awarded to the team of Ukraine by Sergey Torchinsky, who took third place in the nuclear throwing sector.

The current competition will last until September 30.

"Unbowed Games" are international sports competitions in the Paralympic style, founded by the British Prince Harry in 2014. Servicemen and veterans of military operations with a disability received during the performance of their duties take part in the competition, Radio Liberty reports..



Ukraine in 2017 for the first time received the right to participate in the "Unbowed Games" as a participant in many military exercises, peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations, and also as a country whose military personnel have combat experience in performing tasks in the framework of the military operation in the Donbass.

15 Ukrainian sportsmen will compete in such sports: athletics, powerlifting, swimming, archery, rowing on simulators and cycling on the highway.
