The matches of the first day of the qualifying tournament of the US Open Tennis Championship with the participation of Ukrainians ended in New York.

Three of the four representatives of our country will continue to fight in the tournament.

Sergei Stakhovsky easily beat Alexei Vatutin from Russia - 6: 2, 6: 1.

Angelina Kalinin also won Russian woman Kseniyu Lykinu in three batches with 6: 2, 1: 6, 6: 3.

And Catherine Bondarenko gave her opponent Sylvia Soler-Espinosa from Spain only four games (6: 2, 6: 2).

The only defeat suffered Olga Yanchuk, who lost to Alexander Kiik from the USA - 1: 6, 6: 2, 4: 6.

Two more Ukrainians - Ilya Marchenko and Ekaterina Kozlova will hold their first-round matches of the US Open qualifier today, August 23.

Recall that in the main grid of the tournament were three Ukrainians: Elina Svitolina, Alexander Dolgopolov and Lesya Tsurenko.

The US Open will be held in New York from August 28 to September 10. The current winners of the tournament are Stan Wawrinka and Angelique Kerber.
