Strong quadriceps legs - the muscles on the front of the thigh are needed by anyone who plans to move downhill from the mountain, make a double axel on skates, or climb a mountain on foot or mountain bike. The role of these muscles is much greater than just straightening the legs or walking: they participate in virtually all complex movements of the legs.

However, for people suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee joints, training the quadriceps of the hip may have additional benefits. According to experts, training this muscle group can improve the function of knee joints and reduce pain.

It is widely known that overweight and hereditary predisposition can serve as decisive factors in the development of osteoarthritis of the knee joints, but the role of exercises has not been studied to this day.

Exercises for the development of the anterior group of hamstrings can stop the further development of knee joint destruction by better fixing the patella with muscle fibers.

To confirm this assumption, a study was made of the state of cartilage of the knee joint in 265 people before exercise and 15 and 30 months after the exercise.

Those participants who had the most trained muscles lost the least amount of cartilaginous tissue during the study. Patients from the "weakest" group lost about 20% of the cartilaginous tissue of the joint.

Many patients are afraid of exercise because of the possible pain, but with the correct exercise program, the pain will decrease in proportion to the time of exercise and the strength of the muscle. In addition, exercise helps to physiologically relieve the joint from the accumulated fluid in it, which also causes pain.

It should be remembered that not all exercises have such properties, patients should avoid running or powerlifting and prefer walking or water aerobics.
