The International Olympic Committee on Monday, July 31, officially announced that the Summer Olympic Games in 2024 will be held in Paris. Earlier, the Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles had reached an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to hold the XXXIV Summer Olympic Games in this city in 2028. Later information was confirmed by news agencies, notes DW. Los Angeles in its history has already twice hosted the Games - in 1932 and 1984, in both cases it was the Summer Olympics. Thus, Los Angeles refused to bid for the Olympics in 2024.

Paris was the only competitor to the American city. Previously, this right was claimed by Rome, Budapest and Hamburg, but they withdrew their applications. A formal vote on the venue of the Olympics-2024 was to be held on September 13 at the IOC session in Lima. However, representatives of the IOC have repeatedly stated that they intend to reach a tripartite agreement with Paris and Los Angeles and, before the IOC session, to decide on the venue for the two Olympic Games - 2024 and 2028.
