The main battle of the evening was the championship fight between Daniel Cormier and John Jones. Jones knocked out Cormier in the third round and won the UFC title.

Fighters met 2,5 years ago, when Jones won a unanimous decision.

However, Jones did not fight since April 2016, when in a duel for a temporary title, Ovins St. Prue defeated. He had to meet with Cormier in June at the UFC 200, but failed the doping test. The fight was canceled, and Jones - disqualified for a year. Revenge Cormier and Jones had to pass a year ago, but this was hampered by Daniel's trauma.
