Physical activity during rest can prevent depression, studies have shown. According to The Independent, according to scientists, people who regularly do physical exercises during non-working hours are almost twice less likely to suffer from bad moods.
The study was conducted by scientists from the Institute of Psychiatry of King's College in London, together with colleagues from Norway. They studied the data of 40401 Norwegians who told how often they spent their free time on light and intense physical activity.
Researchers also took into account how physically active these people were at work.
An article published today in the British Journal of Psychiatry highlights: heavy physical workloads did not in the least reduce the incidence of depression.
All subjects were asked to undergo a physical examination and answer questions designed to assess their level of depression and anxiety. The results showed that people who regularly took themselves hours of physical activity out of work were less likely to have symptoms of depression.
