Arch of Friendship of Peoples in Kiev is subject to destruction

In Kiev, there are 10 monuments and 18 commemorative to be dismantled in accordance with the law on decommunization. This was told by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Vladimir Vyatrovich, reports Espreso referring to "Tyzhden".

"According to the Institute's estimates, as of June 15, 2017, 10 monuments and 18 commemorative signs have not been dismantled in Kiev," Vyatrovich said..

In particular, the sculpture of the author of the novel "How the Steel Was Tempered" by Nikolai Ostrovsky, the Soviet military leader Mikhail Kirponos, the statue of Shors and the sculptural composition of the crew of the armored train "Tarashchanets".

Among the memorable signs, the bas-relief "Bolsheviks of 1918" in the Pechersk district (the Arsenal factory), the bas-relief of Lenin at the metro station "Teatralnaya", as well as the commemorative plaque to the Minister of Defense of the USSR Andrei Grechko.

At the end of winter in Kiev there were 29 monuments and memorial signs with Soviet symbols, which are to be dismantled in accordance with the law on decommunization.

In the summer of 2016, the first deputy chairman of the KSCA Gennady Plis said that the monument to Nikolai Shchors in the capital can not be dismantled yet, because he is an object of cultural heritage.
