According to a recent study by a group of British scientists, football players, who often love to play with their heads, very often face craniocerebral trauma, which are very clearly visible when scanning the brain. In analyzing the condition of 32 amateur footballers, signs similar to those observed in patients with concussion.

Interest in this issue attracted the attention of the scientific community after the death of the famous British football player Jeff Astle (Jeff Astle), the cause of which was exactly the brain injuries received as a result of beating the ball. According to the official report of the doctors, this kind of damage did not directly cause the death of the football player, but they caused degenerative changes in the structure of the brain, which in turn led to an unfavorable outcome.

According to the researchers' calculations, it is relatively safe to measure less than 1000 head-on-ball hits during the year, however, even amateurs, not to mention professional athletes,. And although now much more light balls are used in football than in the 1960s, during the performance of Astla, they still represent a real danger to the brain of players. It is estimated that during training the ball can fly at a speed of 34 miles per hour or 55 kilometers per hour, while during the professional game this figure doubles. That is, in other words, a player can stop a ball, flying at the speed of a car rushing along the motorway. However, injuries sustained by athletes during a game of football are not noticeable - their symptoms practically do not make themselves felt, and as a result, a person may not even suspect that he has health problems.

The scientists also found out that five parts of the brain can be confirmed by microtrauma - these are several areas in the anterior and posterior cortex that are responsible for memory, attention, mechanical work and the functioning of the visual system. According to scientists, problems with these functions in a professional football player can worsen over time, and for the most part they are irreversible.
