In the Zhytomyr region, a 39-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison due to the fact that he received a summons, but evaded mobilization. The convict claims that he took the summons sent to him as a joke from the employees of the Territorial Acquisition Center.

The corresponding case was considered by the Berdichevsky city district court of the Zhytomyr region. A resident of the Zhytomyr region passed the IHC in June 2023, and in October of the same year received a summons, but ignored it.

During the trial, the man said that he “doesn’t understand what the employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support want from him.”. He allegedly wants to do military service, but cannot due to personal circumstances.

In particular, a resident of the Zhytomyr region claims that he has a number of diseases and a sick mother with a group II disability, whom he takes care of. But, as noted in court, “he does not have any documents that could confirm this, and in general such documents were not drawn up.”.

In turn, TCC employees confirmed: the man told them about his sick mother.

He was given time to complete the documents, but the defendant did not do this, although he “reported that he did not have time to do military service because he needed to earn money.”.

The court found the man guilty under Article 336 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to three years in prison.

Article 336 – evasion of conscription for military service during mobilization for a special period of military service upon conscription of persons from among the reservists. Such evasion is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to five years..
