Academician Khalatnikov, one of the creators of the Soviet atomic bomb, dies

Died Soviet theoretical physicist, the first director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics named after. Landau and one of the developers of Soviet nuclear weapons, academician Isaak Khalatnikov, reported at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Khalatnikov is the oldest academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, he was born in 1919 in Yekaterinoslav (now Dnipro), graduated from the Physics Department of Dnepropetrovsk State University.

In 1945 he was enrolled in graduate school at the Institute of Physical Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In the late 1940s - early 1950s, he was a member of a group of theoreticians who performed calculations related to nuclear and thermonuclear weapons, for which he received the Stalin Prize.

He worked with the famous Soviet physicist Lev Landau, became the first director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics, named after Landau.

Khalatnikov - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the title of Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences was awarded to him in 1984. Author of works on the theory of quantum liquids, superconductivity, quantum electrodynamics and quantum mechanics.
