Everest and surrounding areas quarantined. The first case of COVID-19 was found in the village of Namche Bazar, where tourists often stay, reports The Himalayan Times.

Now a team of doctors is working there - will conduct mass testing for the presence of coronavirus infection. Tourist facilities temporarily closed, international flights canceled.

This is not the first time Everest has been closed to tourists - this has already happened during the first wave of the pandemic in the spring.. Then the highest peak of the Earth was inaccessible from March 14 to April 30. How long the new restrictions will apply is still unknown.
